The Kabuki Play 3

Kabuki is a traditional form of Japanese theater that portrays the lives of people who lived during the Edo period (1600-1868). While it's subject matter is primarily historical, Kabuki's extraordinary spectacles of color and sound through acting, dancing and music still symbolize contemporary life.

HISTORY OF "THE KABUKI PLAY"

  • The original "Kabuki Play" writings exposed a brash inner monologue as I struggled through the trials and tribulations as a college student. Broken friendships, irritating dorm-mates and akward trips home between semesters kicked off the first "Kabuki Play" series. However, college didn't last forever and "the real world" was right around the corner with drama ten fold.
  • "The Kabuki Play 2," a darker and more disturbing account, told the unsettling story about my first job after graduating from college, it being one of the biggest trainwrecks in the history of "The Kabuki Play." After being caught in the middle of 10 consecutive firings in less than two years and being stuck with four pisspoor bosses, I decided that I'd had enough. So, I quit my job and cut off all the negativity in my life, and moved two hours away from home to start my life over.
  • With a new job, my own apartment and a new beginning, "The Kabuki Play 3" picks up where the second series left off and revisits my inner monologue as I try to leave the past behind me and spread my wings.

I see you baby, showin' that ass...

People have been showing their asses more and more every day. Showing one’s ass basically means that they reveal something unfavorable, whether it be an attitude or wrongdoing. People’s blatant sloppiness has only been working in my favor, especially after it recently became obvious that I’m constantly getting the short end of the stick and being taken advantage of.

I was supposed to be on vacation this week, which was planned WEEKS ago, but apparently my boss disregarded it.

For starters, my officemate is no longer designing publications for alumni relations due to a job promotion. Of course, the extra slack falls on me by default, even though there is an additional, senior designer.

The senior designer hides behind the alumni magazine and uses it to evade work. Yet, she freely picks and chooses her projects, most of which are not really institutional priorities. I don’t have those same luxuries and it hasn’t gone unnoticed.

In a staff meeting last week, we were discussing the work load of the department. For some un-Godly reason, my boss decided she wanted a newsletter designed in a day in a half, damn well knowing that I had a 16 page brochure due by the end of the week. There was no way in hell I was going to even THINK about taking on another project, and I made that clear during the meeting.

Instead of adjusting her timeline for it, she just sat there and said nothing. Neither did the senior designer. The two of them were so willing to let me drown and that’s when I knew where the loyalties lay. Luckily, The VP and someone else in the department jumped in to help me, and they’re not even graphic designers.

This spawned a new conversation. The VP asked me to list current and upcoming projects and I listed more than what would fit on a 4 month calendar, over 12 in all. I even rattled off all intermediate deadlines without a hitch, which proved that I was on top of my game and people knew it.

When the senior designer was asked for her assignments, on came the back pedaling and the bullshit. She barely managed to list 3 projects at most and didn’t seem sure of her deadlines. What a beautiful moment. It then became crystal clear that the work distribution was unbalanced and unfair.

My boss, as oblivious as she is, didn’t really say anything – mostly because she has no clue what my workload is and she’s too big of a fucking chicken to step in and do her fucking job. I believe she doesn’t care about me or my well-being.

By the way, let me just say this: her writing is always full of grammatical and punctual mistakes and she does NOT proofread, which clearly shows her incompetence.
Anyway, I was told today that the VP is cracking down on my boss to better manage the work flow, especially since I shouldn’t have to cancel my vacation or be assigned more projects than the senior designer because people can’t handle their shit.

Because these bitches are so disloyal and so selfish, I decided that I’m going to take them out. I’m going to make them look bad and I’m not going to save their asses anymore. From now on, it’s going to be all about me.

AND LET ME ALSO SAY THIS: I decided to postpone my vacation, but I better not hear NOTHIN’ when I take those days off!
